Our revenue model explained

Referral commissions

When you click a link on our site and subsequently open an account or make a transfer with a provider, we may receive a referral commission from that provider. This is our primary source of revenue.

How referral commissions work:

  1. 1. You read our review and click through to a provider
  2. 2. You decide to sign up and make a transfer
  3. 3. The provider pays us a one-time referral fee
  4. 4. You pay the same rate as going direct (often better)

Important: Most of our partner providers offer exclusive rates or reduced fees to customers referred through comparison sites like ours. This means you often get a better deal using our links than going direct.

Typical commission structures

For transparency, here's how commission structures typically work in the money transfer comparison industry:

Fixed referral fee

A one-time payment (typically £20-100) when you complete your first transfer above a minimum amount.

Revenue share

A percentage of the provider's margin on your transfers. This is paid by the provider from their profit, not charged to you.

Hybrid models

Some providers pay a combination of upfront fee plus ongoing revenue share.

Rebates and better rates

Many of our partner providers offer preferential rates to customers referred through comparison sites. This benefits everyone:

  • You save money - Reduced fees or better exchange rates than going direct
  • Providers acquire customers - They pay less than traditional advertising
  • We earn commission - Which funds our comparison service

Example: A provider might charge 0.5% margin to direct customers but 0.4% to comparison site referrals. They pay us a commission from the 0.4%, but you still pay less than going direct.

How we maintain editorial independence

Rankings are never influenced by commission

Our ranking methodology is based on objective criteria: fees, exchange rates, speed, regulation, user experience, and customer service. A provider paying higher commission does not improve their ranking.

We recommend non-partners too

If a provider offers the best service for a particular use case, we recommend them even if we don't have a commercial relationship. Our credibility depends on honest recommendations.

Negative reviews are published

We publish critical reviews of partners when warranted. If a provider has poor customer service or hidden fees, we say so - even if they pay us commission.

Editorial and commercial are separate

Our editorial team creates content independently. Commercial relationships are managed separately and do not influence what we write or recommend.

What we don't do

No paid rankings

Providers cannot pay to appear higher in our rankings or comparison tables.

No sponsored reviews

We do not accept payment for positive reviews. All reviews reflect our genuine assessment.

No display advertising

We don't run banner ads, pop-ups, or other display advertising on our site.

No data selling

We never sell your personal information to third parties. Your data stays with us.

Our disclosure policy

Throughout our site, you'll see disclosure notices when we link to partner providers. We believe in clear labelling so you always know when a commercial relationship exists.

Example disclosure:

"We may receive a commission if you sign up through our links. This doesn't affect our editorial independence or the price you pay."

Our disclosures comply with FCA guidelines on financial promotions and advertising standards. If you ever have questions about our commercial relationships, please contact us.

Questions?

We're committed to transparency. If you have any questions about how we make money, how we select providers to review, or how our editorial process works, please get in touch.
